The 25km cross-country ski trail system at ASC Training Center is open to everyone on a non-profit basis. Our mission is to provide an affordable experience that blends athletes, junior teams, families and recreational skiers in a shared passion for snow sports. Our snow surface is always groomed to competition standards, and with wide overlapping loops skiers of all abilities have terrain options while staying within 5km from the lodge.
At 7,200 feet elevation on Donner Summit our season is the longest in the Sierra. We open as early as possible (snowmobile grooming on inches of snow) and through the season until late spring with a state-of-the-art Pisten Bully 400 Vario tracksetters .
Night skiing: Introduced in 2023-24 we have expanded to 1.5km of LED night skiing. Junior athletes and our community of Nordic skiers can now ski, train, and even race after school or work 3 nights a week. XC skiing at night is a special experience not to be missed! Night skiing will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays this season
Cross Country Trail hours: Athletes, teams and competitions drive what we do at ASC and that makes our operating hours different. This season there are significant changes so please take note before you purchase a pass:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 1:00pm – 7:30pm
Wednesday: 8:30am – 7:30pm
Thursday: 8:30am – 7:30pm
Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Saturday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Sunday: 8:30am – 2:00pm
Trail conditions and storm closures: ASC only updates the trail report below when conditions significantly change so no news is good news. Competitions may limit trail access so always check the report. Holiday’s will have extended open days. Weather and I-80 road closures will often force ASC to close with short notice. When this happens season pass holders will receive a text message within two hours’ of an announced closing time. Make sure your cell number is provided when you purchase your pass. When operations are in doubt call us at 530-426-3313 and be sure to leave a message.

Trail Report Update: 11/26/24
It’s official, Friday, November 29th as our opening day. These are amazing conditions for November. The snow surface will be tiller groomed and most of the core trails will be open. Remember to come to the office and pick up your season pass.
New this season we will be notifying trail pass holders about conditions via SMS texts. This will include last minute storm closures, I80 closures and more. Don’t miss out on these messages, be sure your mobile phone number is correct in your Ski Club Pro account

Frequently Asked Questions
ARE SNOWSHOES ALLOWED ON THE TRAILS?
Yes, snowshoes are welcome. To maintain the snow surface for training athletes, we ask that you stay to the edge of the groomed surface.
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
While we love our furry friends, dogs and fast training athletes don’t mix. No pets are allowed on the property. Service dogs are the exception.
ARE THE TRAILS OPEN ON RACE DAYS?
Trails are not open on race days but will open when races finish, usually early afternoon. Volunteering on race days and skiing after the races conclude are great ways to give back to the sport and the ASC legacy
IS THERE A PLACE TO WAX MY SKIS?
No. The Training Center will not offer any indoor waxing facilities this season.
CAN WE GO SLEDDING AT ASC?
No. However, our neighbors at Boreal Mountain have a great tubing hill right next door
