SNOWBOARD NEWS: It has been a relatively mellow summer for the Snowboard Program. Most athletes have been at home working, hitting the gym, and doing all the things they love to do in the summer. A number of them will also be starting school in the next couple weeks which means winter is creeping up on us.
We are just coming off a 10-day camp at Mt. Hood for the park crew. We had a ton of sun, good parks, and lots of fun. July on Mt. Hood is always a good time.
A few of the SBX athletes are now on the move with a few going to Australia for some training and racing and another group headed to South America for training and racing. The Southern hemisphere seems to be having a good winter, so let’s hope it holds for their training/racing blocks.
As fall planning starts we are looking forward to registration going live and building out our normal fall camps. The park crew will be hitting up the UOP in Park City for some airbag training in late September. Then both the park and SBX crews will be headed across the pond for our normal November in Austria..
XC/BIATHLON NEWS: As usual, the XC and Biathlon programs have been very busy throughout the summer, training for the next season. Biathlon has been training 3 days per week and running a couple of intro clinics. Nordic has been training 5 days per week (often two-a-days) throughout the whole summer. The highlights for both Nordic and Biathlon have been the training camps that ASC has organized and attended (Coastal Camp in Mendocino, Mammoth Camp, Utah Camp).
This year we had athletes in both disciplines attend regional training opportunities sponsored by the US Ski Team and US Biathlon governing bodies (The Regional Elite Group Camp in Bend, OR as well as the Western Regional Biathlon Camp at Soldier Hollow, UT).
ALPINE NEWS: Hope everyone has had a great summer! Some of our Alpine athletes headed up to Mt Hood in July and had a great trip! Mt Hood has had record snow depths this year, which made for unbelievable skiing!
Our Alpine registration is now open! We have added a new Devo 2 program for this season (this will be a Saturday and Sunday program). Also, we are going to have uniforms this season! (For lease or purchase). Please be sure to list the sizes during registration. If you have any program questions please contact Chris Lindsay clindsay@asctrainingcenter.org or for Registration questions contact Inger Norman Don’t forget the Labor Day sale at the Start Haus in Truckee. They will have great deals on used race gear. See you in the fall!
NORDIC CENTER NEWS: Thanks to the hard work of the summer crew and generous donors to the “A Place To Shine” capital campaign ASC has completed phase 1 lighting on 1.5km of trail and the stadium. This work also sets ASC up for future loops as donations and funding allow. We hope you are as super excited as we are at ASC about being the first western Nordic area to introduce night skiing. The increased skiing opportunities for our athletes and the Nordic community will be huge. We’ve added afternoon/night skiing Tuesday’s from 2pm – 7:30pm along with Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 7:30pm to the operation schedule. Come up after school or work and experience night skiing, it’s pretty special.
